Age Limit & Selection Process

  • Age Limit (as on 01 July 2025):
  • Technician Grade-I Signal: Minimum 18 years and Maximum 33 years
  • Technician Grade-III: Minimum 18 years and Maximum 30 years
  • Age Relaxation: 05 years for SC/ST, 03 years for OBC-NCL, 10 years for PwBD, 03 years for EWS as per government norms
  • Selection Process: Computer Based Test (CBT) → Document Verification (DV) → Medical Examination (ME)
  • Medium of Exam: English, Hindi & 13 Regional Languages

Technician Grade-III (Open Line, Workshop & PUs) 6055 Posts
  • Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT in trades like:
  • Forger and Heat Treater/Foundryman/Pattern Maker/Moulder (Refractory) OR
  • Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in related trades

Salary & Pay Scale Details

  • Technician Grade-I Signal: Pay Level 5 - ₹29,200 - 92,300/- (7th Pay Commission)
  • Technician Grade-III: Pay Level 2 - ₹19,900 - 63,200/- (7th Pay Commission)
  • Additional Benefits: DA (Dearness Allowance), HRA (House Rent Allowance), Medical Allowance, Transport Allowance

Exam Difficulty & Competition Analysis

  • Difficulty Level: High - Technical aptitude and specialized knowledge required
  • Expected Applications: 15-20 lakh candidates for 6238 posts (based on previous RRB recruitments)
  • Competition Ratio: Approximately 1:2500 to 1:3000 (Extremely High Competition)
  • Previous Cut-off Range (2018): Grade-I: 65-85% marks, Grade-III: 55-75% marks for general category
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS: 40%, OBC: 30%, SC/ST: 30%/25% respectively
  • Preparation Time: 6-8 months recommended for thorough technical preparation
  • Success Rate: Less than 0.04% selection rate - Requires intensive preparation and technical knowledge

Exam Pattern Details

  • CBT Format: 100 objective multiple-choice questions for 100 marks
  • Duration: 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer
  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness & Current Affairs
  • Question Level: Up to Class 10th and 12th standard
  • Normalization: Scores will be normalized across different sessions

  • Pan India Centers: CBT will be conducted at various centers across all states and union territories
  • Major Cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhopal
